End of 2016-2017 Season

With Morriston beating Maesteg Celtic by 33 - 21 last Saturday, all games in Division 2 West Central have been completed.  Congratulations to Tondu and Resolven who get promoted and comisserations to Aberavon Green Stars and Cwmavon who get relegated.  Penlan finished in 7th. place but there are many positives to be recognised from their performance.  Although in 7th. place they were on equal 56 points with Pencoed and Maesteg Celtic in 5th and 6th.  They lost many of their games with close margins and picked up 7 losing bonus points which was the highest in the table.  They had an average game try of 3 which was in fourth table place and they earned 4 try bonus points in 7 of their games.

They started the seaon well and were in first table place for the first few games but fell foul to some disruption by team changes.  A string of wins were lost in the final minutes which was very dissapointing but the team spirit, ability and loyalty never wavered.

Top try scorer was Kurt Velardo who finished on 9 with Paul Spowart close behind on 7 of the total 74 for the seaon.  Paul also featured as the top point scorer of the season with 141 of our 505 points.

We have four months to re-group before games start next season, probably on 2nd. September.
