Taibach v Penlan Sat 2/9/2017

DISSAPOINTING START FOR PENLAN

It was a dissapointing start to the season for Penlan on Saturday when they were away to Taibach and went down by 37 to 7.

Although Penlan had a full side they were not used to playing together as a team and it showed against a well drilled Taibach side.  Within 5 minutes of the start the home side scored an interception try to go ahead until at 25 minutes full-back Luke Davies scored a try for Penlan and went ahead by 5 - 7 when Paul Spowart converted.  It was to be the one and only time when they were in front as Taibach scored a penalty and converted a try to lead by 15 - 7 at half time.

Although Penlan were dominant at the scrum the Taibach backs had pace and ability that constantly put the visitors under pressure.  In the second half Taibach were to score another three tries, two converted, and a penalty. Penlan were disadvantaged by Taibach going for unconcontested scrums and losing some key players through injury but it was Aaron Jones, the Taibach centre, who made most of the damage as he notched up his hat-trick of three tries.

It was a bad start for Penlan but obviously it is early days and lessons learned will be taken on board for their home game against Morriston next Saturday.
